Circles

A Circle is a shared space for splitting bills and expenses with other people: your partner, roommates, or a group trip. You record who paid, who owes what, and settle up. FinNudge tracks the balance. It never moves money.

What a Circle is for

Rent split three ways, a shared streaming plan, a weekend away where one person fronted the Airbnb. Add the expense once, choose how it splits, and everyone in the Circle sees an up-to-date "who owes whom." When someone pays their share back, you record a settlement and the balance clears.

Creating a Circle

Open Circles and click New circle. Give it a name ("Apartment 4B", "Tahoe trip"), then invite people:

  • By link. Copy the invite link and send it however you like. The person who opens it joins the Circle, even if they are new to FinNudge.
  • By email. Add a member by email and FinNudge sends the invite for you.

Adding and splitting an expense

Click Add expense, enter the amount and who paid, then pick how it splits:

  • Equally across everyone in the Circle.
  • By exact amounts when shares are uneven.
  • By percentage for a fixed ratio.

The Circle's balances update immediately. The Activity tab shows every expense and change in order.

Settling up

When someone pays you back (or you pay them), open the person's balance and click Record settlement. This marks the debt resolved in FinNudge. It is a record only: FinNudge does not transfer the money for you. Send or receive the actual payment however you normally do, then record it here so the Circle stays accurate.

What it costs

  • Joining a Circle someone invites you to is free (Spark).
  • Creating your own Circles is included in Plus.

Privacy and money

Members of a Circle see the shared expenses and balances in that Circle, not your personal accounts, budgets, or transactions. FinNudge never moves money and is not a payment service: settling up records that you both consider a debt resolved, nothing more. See our Terms for the full description.
