Savings goals

A savings goal is a target amount, an optional deadline, and a running balance. FinNudge helps you fund them: manually, monthly, or automatically from leftover budget.

Creating a goal

Open Savings Goals and click Add goal. You set:

  • Name: "Emergency fund", "Trip to Japan", "House down payment".
  • Emoji: pick one from the picker (Goals, Travel, Home, Health categories).
  • Target amount: the dollar number you're aiming for.
  • Deadline (optional): used to compute "you need $X/mo to hit this".
  • Monthly contribution (optional): what you intend to put in each month.

Adding money to a goal

There are four ways to fund a goal:

  1. Manual deposit. Click + Add on the goal card and enter an amount. Logged as a contribution and shown in the per-goal sparkline.
  2. Monthly contribution. Set a recurring monthly amount on the goal. FinNudge surfaces the projected end-date and progress versus plan.
  3. Surplus allocation. At month end, if you spent less than your total budget, the allocator shows up. Distribute the leftover across goals using sliders, or click Split evenly.
  4. Standing monthly plan. When you allocate a surplus, tick "Save as my monthly plan" to remember the percentages. Next month's allocator will pre-seed with your saved split. Fewer clicks every month.

The sparkline

Each goal card shows a tiny six-month bar chart of contributions. Months with no contribution show as zero so the trend stays continuous. Quick way to see whether you've been adding consistently or letting a goal stall.

Progress signals

  • Progress bar: visual % toward target.
  • Remaining: dollars to go.
  • Pace check: when a deadline is set, FinNudge calculates the monthly amount needed and warns if your contributions are off-pace.
  • Goal reached: celebration emoji at 100%.

The Savings Coach agent

One of the five AI agents (see AI nudges) is dedicated to goals. It nudges you when:

  • You finished a month with leftover budget. A nudge to allocate it.
  • A goal is falling behind its deadline pace.
  • You hit a milestone (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%).

Editing & archiving

Click the pencil on any goal card to update name, target, deadline, or monthly contribution. Delete removes the goal and its contribution history. There's no archive yet; if you want a record of finished goals, screenshot the celebration before deleting.

Goals vs budgets

Budgets cap how much you spend in a category. Goalstrack how much you set aside for a future purchase. They're complementary; most users keep a few of each running at the same time.
