Transactions
Every dollar in and out of your connected accounts. The transactions page is your ledger, your search engine, and your editor.
Where transactions come from
- Plaid: automatic sync from connected banks (every few hours).
- CSV import: drop in a statement export for accounts we can't connect.
- Manual: add a transaction by hand for cash spend, splits, etc.
Each row shows merchant, account, category pill, and amount. Income shows in green with a small "+"; expenses in your default text color.
Editing a transaction
Click any row to open the edit drawer. You can change:
- Merchant name: clean up Plaid's noisy names.
- Emoji: pick a custom icon for this transaction. Falls back to the category emoji when you don't override it.
- Amount & date: fix imports that came in wrong.
- Category & subcategory: re-classify when AI mis-assigned. We learn from your corrections.
- Note: free-form text for context ("birthday gift for mom").
- Tags: your own labels for cross-cutting reports (work, vacation, kids).
- Recurring: promote to a tracked subscription.
- Excluded: keep the transaction in your ledger but remove it from budget math (good for transfers, reimbursements).
Categorization & the learning loop
Plaid suggests a category, then a small AI cleans it up using your custom rules and past corrections. When you re-categorize a merchant, FinNudge offers to:
- Apply the same category to future transactions from this exact merchant.
- Apply it to merchants whose name contains the same string.
- Just fix this one (no rule).
Rules are visible at Categories. The more corrections you make, the smarter the auto-categorization gets.
Splitting a transaction
For multi-month subscriptions or upfront payments (annual insurance, conference tickets), use Split to amortize the amount across N months. The original is preserved; the split copies appear month-by-month for accurate budget pacing.
Filters & search
- Date range: this month, last month, last 3 months, all-time.
- Category chips: toggle any category off to remove it from the view.
- Account picker: narrow to one card, one bank, etc.
- Search: matches merchant, name, or description.
- Show excluded: surface transactions you've hidden from budget math.
- Tag filter: see only transactions with a given user tag.
Bulk actions
Select multiple transactions with the row checkboxes to bulk-recategorize, bulk-tag, bulk-exclude, or bulk-mark-recurring. Saves time when reconciling a month at the end.
Export
Use Export CSVto download whatever's currently filtered. Good for tax prep, sharing with an accountant, or feeding into your own spreadsheet.
