Data retention

Your transactions stay with you for as long as you want them. Plaid only exposes about 24 months of history per bank. After that, FinNudge is the only copy. We keep it.

Transactions

Every transaction synced from a linked bank is retained for the life of your account. There is no automatic time-based purge. After two years of active use, your FinNudge ledger goes back further than what Plaid (or even your bank app) typically shows.

This is deliberate. Long-term spend patterns, year-over-year cashflow, tax-time lookups, and category trend charts all rely on the older months you can't get back anywhere else.

Monthly aggregates

Per-category spending totals, net-worth snapshots, and cashflow rollups live in their own tables and are kept indefinitely alongside the raw transactions. Trend charts remain accurate regardless of how far back you look.

Disconnecting a bank

When you disconnect a Plaid-linked institution from Accounts, we revoke the access token server-side and permanently delete the transactions tied to those accounts. The confirm dialog offers a Download CSV backup link before you commit, so you can keep a copy offline. Once confirmed, the deletion is final.

If you reconnect the same bank later, Plaid only resends the last ~24 months of history. Anything older that you didn't back up will not come back. Always download the CSV first.

Closing your account

Requesting account deletion from Settings → Account wipes your profile, transactions, goals, and nudges within 7 days. We strongly recommend exporting your full transaction history to CSV first. Aggregated, fully anonymous statistics may be retained for service analytics.

AI conversation history

Conversations with Ask FinNudgeare intentionally short-lived. Logs older than 30 days are purged daily. That's a privacy promise, not a storage limit.

Encrypted backups

Database backups managed by our infrastructure provider may persist for up to 30 additional days after deletion before being purged from backup systems. Backups are encrypted at rest.
